Devitalisation of imported flowers
April 2012
To ensure the integrity of cut flower imports and to safeguard the Australian cut flower industry from pests and diseases, The industry seeks a review of current AQIS import controls to ensure that effective devitalisation is carried out. The industry believes the devitalisation process should be conducted upon arrival in Australia.
Currently, all imported flowers that can be propagated from cuttings must be devitalised in the country of origin. There is concern within the cut flower industry that devitalisation is not being carried out strictly in accordance with the requirements as set out by AQIS.
